Sebring, March 16, 2002, After enduring cockpit temperatures of up to 160 degrees, Ron Fellows, Oliver Gavin and Johnny O'Connell piloted their C5-R to the winners circle to win the 50th Anniversary Edition of the endurance race known as Sebring. This was win number 14 for Corvette Racing in the 50 years of the Endurance event and it was the first in four tries for the C5-R Factory Based Race Car. Fellows called Sebring "Our Bermuda Triangle" because of the previous three attempts resulted in losses which should have been wins for the team. The Corvette ran without a problem during the race while covering 317 laps of the 3.7 mile road course. in the end the Corvette finished in 9th place out of a filed of 59 cars.
