This is the #3 chassis off of Frank Kurtis' midget production line after the end of the 2nd world war. Just at the start of the nation wide midget-racing craze of the late 1940's. Purchased by Denver, Colorado’s legendary Lloyd Axel, it won the first race it ran in 1946 with Lloyd Axel driving. Locked in constant battle with future AAA national midget driving champ Johnny Tolan (also in a Kurtis, offy powered, midget) Lloyd and his trusty "Old Betsy" won races too numerous to count. Axel sold the car in 1956 to another future midget great from Denver, Eddie Jackson. This incredible midget went on to win Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association (RMMRA) titles in 1960, 62, 63, 67, 68 and 1970. Although being totally outdated by newer equipment, "Old Betsy" continued winning races into the 1970's including an incredible main event victory in 1973 with Leo Tucker at the wheel at Colorado's Englewood Speedway against the United States Auto Club (USAC) best midget drivers in the country and their newer space frame chassis and SESCO engines! Frank Kurtis 3rd car off the assembly line, won a final main event in September of 1974 almost 28 years after it was first assembled and raced in 1946!!!! Although raced and maintained by Denver's midget racing legends, it won races from coast to coast, and now rests, fully restored as the Foster Auto Parts midget as it raced in 1946 under the capable ownership of famed photographer Leroy Byers of Denver, Colorado.
