The team of Sox & Martin is probably one of the most renown teams ever in the sport of Drag Racing. During the years that the team was together, their influence brought the sport to a new era of professionalism. Ronnie and Buddy won numerous National Events, Championships, Match Races and set many National and track records.
It all started early on on the nineteen sixties, when Ronnie and Buddy were competing against each other at the drag strip, in nearly identical 409 Chevies. There was always one gut that Buddy just couldn't seem to beat, and that was Ronnie Sox. Buddy realized if you couldn't beat'em, then join'em and that's exactly what he did. Buddy ordered a new Z-11 Impala for the '63 season, and Ronnie became the "shoe".
The team went on to have a very successful season with the Z-11 and only lost 2 match races the entire year. The Impala ran mid elevens at 123mph in the quarter mile, and that was flying back in 1963 with a full bodied car.
