The Pontiac Firebird was introduced by Pontiac Motor Division on February 23, 1967. It could be purchased as a coupe or convertible. Five basic engines were available: two overhead cam six cylinders, two 326 V8's, and one 400 V8. Pontiac promoted the Firebirds as the Magnificent Five. All 1967 Firebirds were available with standard and custom interior trim options.

Magazine editors road tested several of the 1967 Firebirds when they were first released. One well known magazine tested a 400 convertible with automatic transmission and a 3.08 axle. Performance was charted 15.4 seconds and 92 miles per hour for the quarter mile. The Exact Detail version comes equipped with a 400 V8 engine, automatic transmission, Rally II wheels, standard Parchment interior, hood-mounted tachometer, auxiliary gauge cluster, custom sport steering wheel, AM/FM radio, rear-mount antennae, and custom dual exhaust tips. If you look closely, you can even see a scaled AC logo on oil filter and tire change instructions on trunk underside.

Other notable features include steel fuel and brake lines, fully wired and plumbed engine compartment, fiber covered floor boards, folding front seats, positional sunvisors and operational steering.
